Polhemus' Military History
Polhemus has been working with prime contractors and military entities since 1970. Our systems have flown on U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army fixed and rotary wing aircraft including, to name just a few, F-4, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-101, UH-60, MH-60, AH-1, AV-8B, MH-53, Comanche and A-10 (please contact Polhemus for a more complete resume of aircraft and simulator experience). Polhemus trackers have been installed and utilized in simulators of most airframe manufactures and in laboratories such as Wright Patterson AFB, NAWC, NAVAIR, Polhemus has consistently provided high quality tracking systems for real and virtual military applications in off-the-shelf, customized, ruggedized or militarized configurations. Our success is anchored in the most innovative, competitive and comprehensive product portfolio in the tracking industry. Polhemus has been continuously involved in the design and development of magnetic technology as applied to helmet-mounted cueing systems and head tracking. As the pioneer of electromagnetic tracking technology, Polhemus has received numerous landmark patents which continue to define state-of-the-art products. Through focused IRAD efforts, Polhemus continues to raise the performance bar with advancements in physics, computational algorithms, digital signal processing and mechanical techniques. The results are new standards in tracking accuracy and ease of system integration. For Polhemus, experience extends well beyond the aircraft cockpit. We have developed and delivered man wearable, lightweight, body trackers for warrior training. Polhemus technology inherently provides 6 Degree-Of-Freedom (6DOF) tracking capability. This means setup and integration is much easier than alternative hybrid systems which must merge separate and complex orientation and positional tracking technologies into one system output stream. Today, Polhemus AC tracking technology can be employed in ground vehicles, fixed wing, rotary wing, high fidelity training simulators, human-wearable 3D input devices, and cost effective desktop trainers.
