Polhemus Selected - U.S. Military Pilots Will Have Advanced Helmet Tracking Technology

Posted: September 14, 2010

COLCHESTER, VT (Sept 14, 2010) --- Polhemus has been selected to provide the SCOUT™ Helmet Tracking System to Gentex Corporation, manufacturer of the Scorpion™ Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS). The Gentex Scorpion has been selected as the HMCS of choice for multiple U.S. Military Aircraft platforms. Scorpion has already been proven on A-10, F-16, C-130, and other aircraft designated for the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard.

Polhemus teamed with Gentex to offer an unprecedented HMCS system that delivers critical off-boresight, heads-up display capability, relaying timely and accurate information at the pilot’s helmet—at a cost-effective price. The Polhemus SCOUT helmet tracker provides the critical pilot point-of-regard tracking information necessary to provide accurate real-time situational awareness and cueing capability.

Polhemus has been involved in Head and Helmet Tracking for the U.S. military for more than 40 years. “With their many decades of experience, combined with the speed and high level of precision the SCOUT Head Tracker delivers, Polhemus was the logical partner for the development of the Gentex Scorpion Helmet Mounted Cueing System,” according to Frederick W.D. White, Director of Business Development and Programs for Gentex Visionix.

Skip Rodgers, Program Manager for Polhemus, added, “Polhemus is extremely proud to produce best-in-class technology for the U.S. military. The success we are having across multiple aircraft platforms speaks to our long-standing history of engineering innovation and manufacturing production of specialized trackers. The SCOUT helmet tracker is a prime example of our highly accurate and cost-effective technology doing what it does best--providing both helmet vector and position data for accurate visual cueing and situational awareness symbology.”
