Polhemus Announces VRCO’s trackd® Compatibility for the LIBERTY™ and PATRIOT™ Series 6DOF Products
Posted: June 15, 2004
COLCHESTER, VT, (June 15, 2004)----Polhemus, the industry leader in 6 Degree-Of-Freedom (6DOF) motion capture, tracking and digitizing technologies, is proud to announce that LIBERTY™ and PATRIOT™ now have full compatibility with VRCO's trackD®, the standard device software for leading virtual reality (VR) applications and developers in the immersive display industry. VRCO's trackD is used by all VRCO products and by all CAVELib® applications, plus many more such as Vega® and Vega Prime® from MultiGen-Paradigm.
A variety of operating systems work with trackD, such as IRIX®, Linux®, HP-UX®, Solaris® and Win32®. Its networking capability allows for different graphic systems to share information gathered from either LIBERTY or PATRIOT regardless of the operating system. The applications receive the tracker data through a generic Application Programmers Interface called the trackD API. This generic interface allows applications to specifically support the LIBERTY or PATRIOT without having to modify source code or write specific hardware drivers.
Current Polhemus tracking products include: LIBERTY, a 1- to 16-sensor system with a speed of 240 Hz per sensor, distortion detection, intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI), scalability and improved signal-to-noise ratios which provide consistent high quality data; PATRIOT, a two-sensor, cost-effective system which has a very small and compact footprint; and FASTRAK®, a four-sensor system which has been the number one selling electromagnetic tracker for over 12 years running and has already been used for a number of years with trackD. Communications for all systems include RS-232 and a high speed USB interface, at no extra cost.
